FOOD
During prohibition, one of the most legendary speakeasies was Mort Moriarty’s on 58th in New York, where “Prince” Michael Romanoff once hid from immigration officers for three days subsisting on sardines and scotch.
This was also where author John Thomas just about literally died of liver, ummm … complications. A one-hit wonder who wrote a book called Dry Martini about life at the bar at the Paris Ritz, Thomas might’ve learned something from Romanoff and his sardines. But he did pay heed to the doctors that warned him that he would not survive for long if he neglected to eat with his drink. From then on, Thomas carried around a sandwich and sat it on the bar.
Hungry yet? Well, we will have food –and it’ll be more than just a sandwich for show. The thing is, during these “soft” openings, we’re not entirely sure just what. Actually, we’re hoping for a little feedback from you folks in this regard. Let us know just which bar snacks might you think might work particularly well just now.
